Ugadi is the celebration of New Year in South India, especially in the states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Ugadi falls on the first day of the Chaitra month of the Hindu calendar (end of March or April in English Gregorian calendar). The new Panchanga (Hindu calendar) is recited on the day of Ugadi, which gives predictions and important dates for the coming year.
This heritage city of Hampi also celebrates Ugadi with traditional customs and fervour like other parts of Karnataka. This festival is celebrated with decoration of homes, with a range of traditional delicacies and offering special prayers in temples.

· House cleaning and decoration: Houses are cleaned before the festival and the entrance is decorated with fresh mango leaves, called ‘Toran’.
· Wearing new clothes: People choose to wear new clothes and also exchange gifts among family, relatives and friends.
· Special bath: Locals also take a special bath after doing an oil massage and further worship is done in temples.
· Special Pujas: Special pujas are conducted in temples where devotees visit to seek blessings from the Lord.
